Introducing the United Socialist States of America: the USSA

I just can't take it any longer. I thought I'd give President Obama the benefit of the doubt, and a little time to prove my earlier suspicions of his background and motives. I thought, like many, that it can't be that bad, really. I should always be mindful of the adage that one can be measured by the company he keeps. Now, Mr. Obama has begun to show his true colors, and one of those colors is red.
    Should I be surprised that a man who sat at the knee of an avowed socialist, kept company with a Marxist "education professor?" No, doesn't surprise me in the least. I thought maybe the institution of the presidency was bigger than the man who occupies it. Alas, it is proving wrong.
     The ramming down the throats of Americans of the single largest spending bill was merely the beginning (porkulus). Now we get a glimpse of what Mr. Obama has proposed for the new budget. The slipping in of moneys toward  a :medical commission" to evaluate whether or not a procedure is valid and successful should have been a huge tipoff. But how could it have been caught. At over 1000 pages no one, not one Senator, not one Congressman read the entire "stimulus package." Then we get word of nationalizing a few of the major money center banks. Ding. Anyone hear that?
     Now we come full circle to the new budget. I am so angry, so infuriated that I had to post something. Anything. It is just sitting in my gut and I must spew forth the bile before it eats my insides.  We are now hearing that not only is Mr. Obama going allow Bush 43s tax cuts expire, but just as he promised in the campaign, he is going to raise taxes (already did in the stimulus package, but let's not quibble) on the rich. Of course the rich are currently those who earn $250,000 or more. These are the people living the high life, eating steak, drinking Dom, at the spa having their mani/pedi done.
     Here is what has me all flustered. The plan is to cap and phase out certain deductions taken at tax time for these rich folks. A cap on itemized deductions, including (and probably not limited to) charitable deductions and the mortgage interest deductions. This is a deal killer. An economy killer. We will go into a depression.
     When I explained this to my wife she said that "well no one contribute to any charities." Yep, that is true. And guess who will be on the sideline ready to swoop in and take over the role of the charity. You guessed it: the government. Hello USSofA, welcome to the land of the United Socialist States of America. Dear reader, this is but the beginning, there is more to come, much more. If you think that the rich are and will always be defined as those who earn $250,000, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.
     There is no way, no one scintilla of a way that what Obama/Pelosi/Reid can pay for all of their socialist programs. Universal Healthcare, Universal education (cradle to college, heck why not graduate school), mandates on energy, along with Medi-Care, Social Security, and on goes the list.
     We will be told where to live, what size of home we can have, what kind of car we can drive (nationalized auto industry, Pelosi getting to design the cars), what temperature our thermostat can be at, what we can eat (transfats bad, no steak for you, only tofu). Are you getting the picture?

     I have a few questions, and I will more than likely make a poll(s) of it, but here you go:

     For those of you who were on the fence, not sold 100% on either McCain or Obama, are you satisfied with the job the president and his Congress have given you? Are you glad you voted for him? Is he performing and enacting policies that you expected? When a Supreme Court Justice retires or (God forbid) dies is he going to nominate a justice that you would have faith in?
     These are difficult times, no question. But the path that Obama/Pelosi/Reid are leading this country will be detrimental to our future and our children's future. Mr. Obama and the Democrats vilified Bush/Cheney for profligate spending and for deficits. And their answer has been to increase the deficits to heights not seen since WWII. Our deficit is projected to be 12% of GDP, that is simply outrageous. And, do you think that with all of the proposed spending and programs that Democrats want we will see any reduction in that percentage. We are headed to be a sister nation to the European Union. Is that where we want to be?

   So I ask, do you want a United States of America or a United Socialist States of America? The writing is on the wall, and if we do nothing, sit back and not take action we are going to lose the greatest nation ever seen on the face of God's green earth. We are destined to become a failed state much like the old Soviet Union or the now decrepit North Korea? Where is the leader like Reagan who can say we are the shining city upon the hill? One who inspires hope, defends liberty, allows for the pursuit of happiness, and ensures everyone has opportunity without taking from another, holds up and encourages the individual rather than the "collective." That is what is uniquely American, and what she should champion in the future.

       Perhaps this is something that our leaders in D.C. need to be mindful of. Their power is derived from the people, and they should be careful not to mock and/orforget the fragility of that trust. Far too many of our Congressmen and Senators deem themselves mini-despots, holding that only they are able to manage and run the government, that only they know best how to spend the taxpayers funds. We have strayed so far from the Revolution in which the people entrusted elected officials to rule not for their own benefit but rather for the common good. One of the greatest examples of despotism lies in Earmarks. These mini-despots weild their power in gaining power and the adulation of ther constituents for the sole purpose of ensuring their incumbancy. The GOP must go about and attack the very nature of Earmarks, refuse to insert them, and vote against any and all legislation that includes them. Basically, the GOP must stand on its principles. Doing less is tantamount to muntiny and joining the other side: Democrats. And, this is just the beginning.
     I enjoy the fact that there are several Republican Governors who have threatened not to take Stimulus Money. Bully for them. It is tainted money. Standing on principle will only endear Republicans to their base. At this moment that is the only remedy that we have, as well as the filibuster. Every Republican Senator ought to hold up every judge nominated by President Obama, just as the Democrats did to Bush 43. Not out of spite, rather out of principle. An activist judge is just as bad as an earmark, perhaps even worse. The GOP must stand shoulder to shoulder as one entity that stands athwart the new New Great Society Deal. If we do not, or we have the select few "moderate Republicans (cough: Spector, Collins, Snowe)" we will be destined to remain the minority for years, dare I say decades?

     It is not enough to simply be the loyal opposition. We must also offer solid, real solutions for every bit of legislation and/or presidential perogatives. We cannot be seen as merely beligerent, but rather that we have ideas, solutions that will get America back to her glory days. We cannot be the doom and gloom party, a role that Mr. Obama seems to have taken to rather easily, so much so he reminds me of another out of nowhere president: James Earl Carter. We can only pray that Obama is a single term president as Carter was. We must be the party of hope, the party of strength, the party of success. A swift reminder that the people have the right to take back what is rightfully theirs that which is divinely given, may put the fear of God in them, but alas not likely. I can only hope that the people tire of the artfully orator Obama.
     How low does the economy need to go? The stock markets are down 40% and more in some cases. What the administration fails to see is that the bearishness is a reflection of the dissatisfaction that the market has for the solutions the triumvirate Obama/Pelosi/Reid have been offering and implemeting. The market sees no bottom at this point. We have further to fall, and that is a scary thought. Obama's first month in office has seen the economy in a freefall and their has been no efficacious remedy. What has been offered and legislated has only been a payback of campaign promises; wealth redistribution, special interest hand outs (i.e.:unions), solidification of political power. Spending continues unabated with no real reform, and we now see the gains made in welfare reform cast aside, and we now see that taxes are going to increase (which has already occured) with greater increases in the future. The Bush 43 tax cuts will expire and tax increases forthcoming for those who earn more than $250,000. I fear that when tax revenues fall, and the spending continues that just as in the campaign the definition of "rich" will vary greatly. The threshhold will be ever lowered; first $250,000, then $200,000, then $150,000 and then $97,000. People, hold on to your wallets!
    The market has spoken and it does not like what it sees. Now, if only, the people will arise and express their disdain for the Democratic Party. Realistically being a nearly 50-50 country (50% GOP-50% Dems) the margin for error is slim. The political pendulum will swing to favor the GOP. This time, however, we best not squander the opportunity to make the goverment just what the Founding Fathers had in mind, a government for the people, of the people and by the people, not those in it merely for power and money (Clinton comes to mind here).

What's With All Of The Hullabaloo With Gov. Jindal's Rebuttal To The President's Speech Before Congress?

   I guess all I have to say is that it is a whole lot of nothing or as Shakespeare might say: much ado about nothing. We have watched President Obama's speeches, we have endured the theatrics in which the president is hailed as just short of messianic. I know, there are those who would have me refrain from comparing Mr. Obama to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. However, the larger point is that the main stream media is so enthralled with the president and slobbering all over themselves with having pushed Obama in to the presidency.
     When you have a major news personality talking about tingles going up (Chris Matthews) or down his legs is scary in its representation of how main stream journalists view then the candidate Obama. When those who hold the power to sway public opinion (note that I say opinion here) the public is misled. If these journalists were even the slightest bit ethical they would hold their tongues in expressing their political leanings. I have always thought that was what journalism is all about; a reporting of the facts without the color of partisan politics. Watching the evening news is akin to attending a pep rally for ____________ (insert any Democrat running for any office). I would have no problem if the show that these so called journalists anchor were labeled as opinion. That's fine, that's being truthful. Attempting to be fair and partial is a difficult task, the left leaning journalists are trying to mold the country into a center left political nation. So far they have succeeded.
     However, mark my words, in addition to the Democratic led Congress overreaching in its governance, the electorate is very likely to turn its anger in seeing that what the Dems have wrought did nothing to cure our economic malaise, catastrophe, whatever word of failure you can think of. The media, too, will incur the wrath of the public in that lies can only be hidden for so long. The onion will be peeled and what the electorate gets is not sweet ambrosia, rather they will have a stinking fetid onion that brings one to their knees crying. The path that has been chosen by those 52-53% who voted for Obama will lead us into a deeper more horrifying recession. The straw that will break the camels back will be the tax increases that are on their way; the tax relief given by Bush 43 expires in 2010, and Obama's new budget for 2011 calls for ta increases for those earning $250,000 and more. Again, watch very carefully, as rates have already gone up (subject for later) and when further tax increases hit the taxpayers tax revenues will plummet. When they plummet and the triumvarite (Obama/Pelosi/Reid) go back to the drawing board that $250,000 threshhold will begin to lower, $200,000, $150,000, $100,000 perhaps? When spending continues to grow and tax revenues fall the deficit will grow, and printing money will only devastate the economy with rampant inflation.
    My whole point of this point was that Governor Jindahl's speech was not spectacular but it was great in its substance. After the initial mea culpa Jindal goes on to describe what Republicans have forgotten. The basic principles of low taxes, smaller government, strong defense, individual responsibility and so on were abandonded. We lost our way in the forest of DC, and we couldn't see the forest for the trees. There was a myopia in conservative politics, the tree before them was visible and admired but those Republicans couldn't get the whole picture, meaning they couldn't see the forest. The Republican Party has to get back to its roots. That was what Governor Jindal attempted to get accross.
     Of course, the MSM is attempting to vilify Jindal so his message can't get out there, lest the people believe that they can overcome this juggernaught. Slaghter the messanger (so to speak) and his message will be ignored. Gov. Jindal and his ilk are the future of the GOP, and we must listen and further, we need to take action,

Bearish Stock Market Continues

    When traders awoke this morning they must have had a severe case of acid reflux. Trying to digest the speech that President Obama gave before a joint session of Congress. Smiles abounded, firm handshakes among Democrats and the hugging of certain Representatives and Senators preceded the speech; spoon fed pabulum and President Obama stood tall and proud. Now, however, comes the hard part. After attempting to assuage the fears of the everyday Joe the Plumber, Mr. Obama has to reassure Wall Street; the Street has to unravel the wheat from the chaff. And what the Street saw it did not like.
     Prior to the speech, Monday February 23, 2008 stock markets took a nose dive:
     What Wall Street sees it does not like. Surely all of those investment bankers and arbitragers love the Obama Administration, afterall they gave boatloads of money to the Obama campaign.  What those erudite men and women failed to see was that by giving the reins of the government to the Democrats (the presidency and a filibuster proof Senate gives the Democrats wide latitude to implement their New Society) and the Dems have grabbed those reins and are not likely to pull back on those reins and slow its progress. All things Bush/Cheney will either be allowed to lapse or simply discarded as greed or instituted by power hungry Republicans. The new administration is quickly undoing things from the funding for abortion clinics, embryonic stem cell research (ESCR), Gitmo, rendition, among many other policies. What the Obama administration and the Pelosi/Reid triumvirate has just begun; namely, universal healthcare is nearly a fait accompli, the first Obama Stimulus package is merely the first salvo. President Obama said last night that we are not finished- ensuring that the first $1 trillion was just a drop in the bucket.
     When there is little or no stimulative effects resulting from the enactment of 'porkulus' (this is a new word that has arisen from the pork laden stimulus bill- nothing but political payback and rewarding special interests- some change, huh) another round of Democratic negotiation to put forth the second stimulus bill. Gee, the pork price goes up, rather than down, when one negotiates with itself is it any wonder.
    Well, I have strayed well away from my initial point and that is regarding the stock market bearish plunge. Is it any surprise that the market doesn't like what it sees? No real stimulus- job creation, according to Obama 4 million jobs would be created), no real reform of the way corporations do business, very little in the form of tax relief. And what the market really sees is the lapsing of the Bush tax cuts in 2010, and that Obama intends to raise taxes on the "wealthy." So, the day before Obama's speech the market plunges, DOW down 250+, NASDAQ down 53.41 and S&P down 26.72. What Obama is proposing is a melding together of the FDRs New Deal and the LBJ Great Society. Thus we now have the New Society.
     Unfortunately, hate Obama and his Congress are going to spend, spend, spend. They are going to get their fingers sticky by getting into businesses (regulations) and banks (nationalization). What we need in DC is revival of those Reagan principles that says we have individual responsibility, we must reduce the size of government (not enlarge it), we must support or troops by increasing defense spending. The very first thing that can be done in order to stabilize the housing market and thus strengthening the banking system.
      The accounting device known as mark to market must be eliminated. An asset has no value, other than its original purchase price, until the asset is sold. Right now losses are predicated upon what a value of an asset (in this case a home) on its present market value. This accounting rule is killing our financial institutions.      That is just a start at stabilizing the housing market. I am astounded that there is not a bigger cry out there with regard to President Obama's Mortgage relief plan. Why do we want to bailout "deadbeats" who have defaulted on their mortgage? Somewhere between 50% and 60% of those who have had a mortgage recast end up in default again within 3 to 6 months. So why even expend the money. Surely, we can find a better way to save those who have the ability to pay back. I am still leaning toward a toxic asset bank, one that takes foreclosed properties and hold it as an asset and then sold in the future in order stabilize these assets. This would be similar to the resolution Trust Corporation of the Savings and Loan debacle.
    So far in the first month of President Obama's presidency has done little to win me over. There is nothing that I see that would say, "give the guy a break." He and Pelosi/Reid have done everything wrong. You can't cry that you want bipartisanship and then simultaneously lock the GOP from input. I must say that President Obama has done little in the way of reassuring the American people, there is little hope and change. He has preached gloom and doom from just about the beginning. I want to thank all of those who decided that Obama had the experience and wisdom to be the leader of the greatest nation on God's Green Earth.
    The basic fact that the stock market plunged on the day he was inaugurated and has continued throughout his first 100 days. I don't believe there is much confidence in his abilities. How much further will the market fall. As of last reporting the market's overall are off by as much as 40% and some say as high as 60%.
     So, again I want to thank all of you who succombed to either Bush Derangement Syndrome and/or the Obama persona of being the savior. Every time I pass a car on the road that has an Obama/Biden sticker I make sure that I wave at them, give them my best fake smile and thank them under my breath. Elections have consequences and we are going to suffer the worst of that result. I can only pray that Obama is a one termer like President Carter. My other prayer is that the good Lord protect the people of America from harm from those evil men that would like to impose their religion upon us, and if we fail to agree we will be behedead as infidels. I also pray that Mr. Obama has in place those advisors who would guide him in protecting the Homeland. I shudder to think of the possibility of some Islamofascist with a city bomb or some big cell that attacks multiple soft targets.

A Call to a Tea Party, 2009 Style

Is it any wonder that the market continues its plunge? Deficit spending, hints at nationalizing banks, tax increase- in the form of Bush cuts expiring and a raise in the rates on the upper income ranges.
     With every passing day the stock market reacts to the myriad of political shenanigans. The circling of the wagons by the Democrats has continually frustrated the Republicans. All the talk of "bipartisanship" is merely that: talk. The appearance of cooperation between House Republicans and Pelosi Democrats is laughable; meaning that if you do what I want, without compromise and/or debate. It is my way or the highway, just as it is in the Senate with Majority Leader Reid. According to the Democrats, their plan is of the utmost value, and is the only manner by which America can succeed.
     It is disappointing that there are a few Republicans that the Dems can turn their backs on their principles. The soft three, Spector, Snowe, and Olympia can define the Obama Administration. It is unfortunate these Senators are so eager to and sell out the GOP for the benefit of none and at the expense of this the newest generation. They will forever carry the burden of an American government that cannot say no, and certainly lost her way from the principled map provided us by our founding fathers.
     That map is unique in all of history; the Constitution will stand the test of time. While far from perfection, the world is far better off that our Founders decided and paid with their blood, sweat, tears, and fortunes that All Men Were Created Equal.  In that we were created equal does not mean that we were all guaranteed equal outcomes; merely that we all have the opportunity to chase that ultimate success, the peace of "happiness."
     Nowhere in the Constitution or any founding document that guarantees that the government will/would/should guarantee that everyone have the same joyous outcome. What we are seeing now in the molding of a new government, one far and above those social contracts of the New Deal and the Great Society. We are moving toward the guarantee of happiness by the government, the right to a home, the right to healthcare, the right to a car, cable, food; I think you get my drift.
     Now we have a president that so eagerly spouses the fact that we have failed as a society, that we have only one opportunity to remake America into the successful nation that she once was. "Only the government can break this vicious cycle." Only the government, not the private sector, not the small business owner, not the individual can fix the "worst crisis since the Great Depression." The government as father, mother, judge, jury and executioner. We have moved away from individual accountability into the nanny state that will solve all problems; the bureaucrats in DC know best how to fix the darn thing. The DCB (District of Columbia Bureaucats) have all the anwsers.
     They will begin to tell us what we can eat (transfats banned in NY City), how we might make phone calls (Califonia institutes hands free calling law), what setting our thermostats can be set at, how much water we may use, how many miles we can drive, tell us that we can't smoke in our own homes or autos, how much our income will be, and wealth redistribution.
     There is now serious discussions that the government may best know how to run a bank, basically, natioanlizing our banking system, or at the very least nationalizing the largest banks: Bank of America, CitiCorp to name but two. Now stir into the pot the new provision in the latest "stimulus package" that a governmental agency will monitor surgeries and treatments of paitients in an effort to lower costs. Can you ever envision Benjamin Franklin saying that we must take all botes on surgeries and treaments for ailments and have a new agency regulate whether or not what was billed is "usual, customary and reasonable?" A bureacrat will decide whether ot not your surgery is neccessary and if so he/she will tell the physician what he/she can charge. I am sure that Franklin, Jefferson, Adams, Hamilton among others who are turning over in their graves. The Federal government as envisioned by our founders has gone by the wayside. Our freedoms are slowly but sirely dying a slow death.
     It never ceases to amaze me that we have come to this place in history. Our politicians have lost sight of the founding principles which should govern every action that government might ensue.  We must take back our nation and say enough is enough. Our Constitution guarantees Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. The govenment cannot be in the business of guaranteeing the Happiness of all of its citizens. It can only ensure that the playing field is even. Nevertheless, we have a long way to go in that department. The government cannot guarantee that everyone have a home, to have cable in their home, to have a car, suv or any other mode of transportation.
     The other role of the government is to protect her citizens.  Fight those who would kill us, those who would subjugate us to slavery and/or worse. The government needs to ensure that the markets are fair, no take over any sort of financial institution with the sole purpose of running the bank and thereby the economy.  Nationalization is never successful, ask the Poles, Germans, the former Soviet Union nations.
     Our friend Hugo chavez is running his country into the ground. And, pray tell, what is he trying? Nationalizing major businesses, oil, journalism, banking, etc. Our Caribbean friend in Cuba has done the same thing. And the results are horrendous, ask the starving children. Ever notice how all the cars one sees in Cuba are Chevy's from the 50's and 60's. Is this the direction in which we wish to venture? Hell No, I say!
     We must take back our country from the elitist Democrats who are solely interested in the power, and that power will be their downfall. Calling a spending bill a stimulus package is an outright lie. The Fairness Doctrine in which liberal politicians want to take the voice of Conservatism off the air, replaced by those who couldn't find their way out of a wet paper bag. The woeful Air America, devoid of any reality and living on Bush Derangement Syndrome is on life support, if not already dead. The Check Card legislation will take away fair and impartial voting and in its place put employees at the command of union leaders and their strong arm tactics.
     We are at a crossroads in history for this Great Nation. Which direction will she take? When the stimulus fails, as I no doubt believe, and the wind is let out of President Obama's honeymoon we will be no better off, in fact we will be much worse.
     Who is going to pick up the Reagan mantle and take back the country to her once great status. No matter how much Mr. Obama is able to deflect criticism and bathe in the glory of the slobbering "we love" Obama fourth estate (journalism) the world is falling apart.
     Iran is close, if not already there, to having enough fissile nuclear material to build a bomb, or more. North Korea is testing a long rance ICBM capable of reaching the US, and good ol' Vlad (Putin) is pressuring once solid allies in the Baltics to throw us out. Iraq is stabilizing, Afghanistan and Pakistan are on a path of destruction and we dither with how much more we can spend. The $729 billion package may well not have been enough to turn the tide in the economy.  But, the president will look prescient as he warned us that this would not be the end.
     Unemployment will soar over the next year, the housing market will continue is plunge, and Congress will continue to vote itself a new raise. The stimulus package could have been stimulative if there were more spending and tax cuts that would generate an enthusiastic return to positive GDP. Now, we hear that President Obama is going to halve the national deficit. His solution will be raising taxes, a death knell to be dealt to the economy. He will then throw in new spending on Universal Health Care. You can bet that will have a huge impact and another $1.0 trillion will go out the door. His revenue collection from the IRS will plummet and then the definition of rich will slowly, gradually slide down the scale. Remember, $250,000, $200,000, $100,000, $97,000...so you can do as I am, bend over, grab your ankles and smile and say "thank you, sir, amy I have another, please, sir."

Hm...Stock Market Plunges, Obama Lowers Expectations

     The stock market continues its further plunge into bearishness. If the stock market is forward looking, 6 months or more, what does the it see forthcoming? Well, nothing good, I say. Since President Obama took the oath of office the markets have not reacted favorably. In fact, this is the worst showing for the market following a change in governing powers. Change We Can Believe In...indeed. Unfortunately, that change has only been negative.
     Despite billions of dollars in stimulus and government intervention prior to the current Spending Plan- or government recreation- the economy continues in its state of contraction with no growth in sight. Mr. Obama has not given much Hope for his Obama/Pelosi/Reid gargantuan spending plan to succeed. He has continued talking down the chances that this boondoggle will work. He has certainly made it clear that the plan is no panacea, and that we can expect that as TARP failed in its first iteration that we can expect future spending. $1 Trillion is simply not enough, and will get nowhere near the employment and stimulative effect expected.
     Recall, that I said weeks ago that this boondoggle will not create any where near the number of jobs that President Obama wants. The number of jobs that he and his "economic" team expected began at 2 million, then it became 3 million and ended at an astounding 4 million jobs. I hold that the spending will create less than 1 million jobs. One cannot say that a volunteer job to offset college funding is stimulative, let alone a creation of a job. We have merely saddled our children and their grandchildren with billions in debt all to remake the government into the Democrats' dream; it is closer to socialist than it is a free market. In fact, the market is in a tailspin as it looks at the potential that some banks may become nationalized. FDRs New Deal and LBJs Great Society hold nothing on the current New Great Society. Those failed and saddled the American citizen with debt and continued deficits as far as the eye can see. Welcome back to the era of the Welfare State...

Stimulus Plan: Pork Spending, Earmarks and Social Engineering

I searched this morning to find as much as I could about what was being spent in the "stimulus plan." According to Obama/Reid/Pelosi all spending is stimulative. This bill is nothing more than political payback for the Democrats; they are making good on their promises to the electorate and their special interests. Those special interests include education (teachers unions), labor (labor unions), ACORN,

The hidden liberal policy agenda inside the ‘stimulus bill’…

  • Over $142 Billion in Federal education funds: Nearly double the total outlays for the Dept. of Education in 2007 – making good on Reid-Pelosi-Obama education promises to the NEA.
  • $87 Billion Medicaid bailout: Medicaid is funded by a formula that matches state spending levels with federal dollars. If we keep bailing states out, they will have every incentive to continue irresponsible spending. Fiscally responsible taxpayers in Indiana are now paying for fiscally irresponsible bureaucrats in Illinois.
  • Expanded Medicaid coverage and SCHIP: Reid-Pelosi-Obama are enacting a nationalized health care policy with no debate. The government will soon be responsible for more health care spending than the private sector, i.e. socialized medicine.

$360 million for new child care centers at military bases.
$1.8 billion to repair National Park Service facilities.

Today's Thought and Patriot Post: Founding Father Quote, Alexander Hamilton

I only have a few quick thoughts for this morning. I believe that the market didn't like what it heard yesterday regarding the Secretary of the Treasury's Timothy Giethner. The broad markets went into a tailspin, with most of the market indicators off sharply. Could the market sell off been a reaction to the presidential presser on Monday as well? You betcha! The markets don't like what they are seeing coming from our victorious Democratic led Obama/Pelosi/Reid. Looks like trouble on the horizon for the Democrats.

Elections have consequences. I believe that an electorate that tired of Bush and lost interest in the global war on terrorism (namely, Bush's downfall was his greatest success, keeping the homeland safe for 7 years) asked for change. I am seeing in the quick turn on the belief that the government can cure all that ails America. I see  rejection of bigger government as the solution; in other words the Obama/Pelosi/Reid answer for the current financial crisis is headed for failure, and the electorate will not react kindly to the $2.0 trillion wealth redistribution and government recreation. The honeymoon is over, it may well not have extended much past inaugration.

Deep in the "Stimulus Plan" Provision for Universal HealthCare

The "stimulus plan" being ramrodded through Congress has a provision deep within its 600 plus pages provisions for Universal HealthCare. We are watching the fulfillment of President Obama's many campaign promises; elections have consequences. I am pretty sure the American people have a dislike of underhanded, secretive recreation of America as the republic she is. She will soon be no better than the Socialism of the European Union. Maybe we can join the union?

I am appalled...not surprised, but appalled. I am disappointed in our elected officials. The only hope we have is that the Republican Party can stand athwart this monstrosity. It will pass the Senate, thank you Sen.s Spector, Snowe and Olympia you have let down Conservatives and the American people.

The Criminalization of American Politics: "Truth Squad" Weighed in Congress

Last night we were entertained by the first presidential prime time presser. Indeed, President Obama appeared before the nation last night to defend his "stimulus package" as the panacea to our current financial crisis. Quietly, the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) has announced that he is calling for a "truth squad" that would "to investigate the Bush administration's treatment of terror suspects and the authorization of warrantless wiretapping.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., said such a commission would not seek to prosecute former administration officials but would have the power to subpoena them to testify.

"Rather than vengeance, we need a fair-minded pursuit of what actually happened," Leahy said as he outlined his proposal during a speech at Georgetown University. 

So, last night we were given arguments by President Obama that the government was the only entity large and powerful enough to solve the financial crisis. Some are calling this the "Nanny State," while others are arguing that this is nothing more than putting the United States on the slippery slope of Socialism (see Newsweek's current cover page). What Senator Leahy proposes in the "truth commission" sounds suspiciously like Communism. The Soviet Union would create innocuous sounding commissions with the sole purpose of squashing dissent.

How sad that this new government, this "change we can believe in," the "yes we can (si, su puede!)" administration Pelosi/Reid Congress is bending to the will of the ACLU and KosKids (better, Kossacks?). How far will be from jailing, and trying the former administration? How far will we be from criminalizing dissent and throwing the opposition into jail? Listening to Mr. Obama last night one got the serious change.

No longer do we have the candidate of "Hope and Change." We now have the doom and gloom president who is echoing the Carter era rhetoric. When will Obama mention "malaise?" I said last night, I will say it again, Obama and Pelosi/Reid have overreached and bet the entire farm on this stimulus package. When it fails, by my metric of not creating 4 million jobs, unemployment rising and the housing market will continue its freefall, the Democratic led government will flounder and have a difficult tenure.

The above argument of Socialism and Communism is not so farfetched. What I have not posted on is the ultimate shameless grab for power is the new reporting of the Census Bureau Director will be reporting directly to the President's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel. That is a naked grab for power; a previously non-partisan governmental agency is working directly with the man that has been described as a partisan bulldog. Is Democratic gerrymandering next and the solidification of Democratic majorities far off? Could you imagine the outcry if it were Karl Rove that the Director would be reporting to? I could easily see the NYTimes, WaPo, Huffington Post (that paragon of journalistic standards bearer) becoming apoplectic!

In First Prime Time Presidential Press Conference Pres. Obama Admits...

Hmmm...for the first time I have it heard out of this president and/or his leadership Pelosi/Reid that this current financial crisis began "when too many banks were lending on far too many risky loans." I need to look at the transcript as to what his exact comment, but it shocked me.

Of course, it was left there dangling. The CRA created re was no one in this press corps that would have the courage to stand up and ask why those banks were making those loans. Mr. Obama was, of course, referring, obliquely, that the financial crisis began in the financial institutions that were required to make those loans due to the wonderful Community Reinvestment Act.

I have argued before that while the initial belief may well have had magnanimous intentions (the old adage the road to he$& is paved with good intentions), making sure that minorities and those that, perhaps, didn't have a chance to participate in home ownership, for what some believed had been racially motivated. What the CRA did was, as Mr. Obama rightly said, to create far too many "risky loans."

If new procedures and new credit parameters had to be created in order to qualify these newly minted debtors. Sadly, they couldn't pay back the loans, but banks could not expand and had to work around receiving negative CRA ratings; the  sub-prime lending "went crazy."  Over regulations killed the financial institutions in this country, not greed, not free market policies, big government failed.

The financial crisis was not created by the Madoff's of the world. It was perpetuated by the likes of ACORN breathing over the shoulders of "main street" bankers ensuring that the problem grew. The bankers created CMOs (Collateralized Mortgage Obligations) to ensure that risk was taken off the books. Those creatures were then purchased as financial instruments that no one could possibly understand the ultimate risk. Those assets were what blew up. Those are the "toxic" assets that are haunting balance sheets worldwide. I suppose there are those partisan Democrats who would say it was all the past administrations (or the past 8 years that we hear daily) are the cause of the worldwide recession; puhlease...

I am sorry to say it but that was not a presidential "presser." It was a mere defense of the stimulus spending boondoggle. Mr. Obama was there basically saying, I am right, Republicans are wrong, they were wrong for the last 8 years (including in world affairs) and they are wrong now. The same old cut taxes won't work. Mr. Obama and the Reid/Pelosi Democrats have bet the farm, and if this doesn't work they are going to have a rough time, their tenure is going to be a disaster. The next election will sway the Republican's way. I pray that we don't screw things up and merely continue to be DemocratLite.

Recall also that the last stimulus plan failed, sending cash in the mail failed to stimulate in the last round. This stimulus package will not, let me repeat that, WILL NOT CREATE 4 million jobs. Mark my words...

Let's find the leadership that we have sorely missed since the Reagan Era.

What Is Wrong With The Following Statement?

This is what I had the distinct displeasure to read this morning in the San Diego Union Tribune regarding the boondoggle that is the "stimulus package":

WASHINGTON

Senior Obama administration officials sought to intensify pressure on Congress yesterday to pass a massive stimulus package for the crumbling economy, warning lawmakers of the consequences of delay while rescheduling the unveiling of their financial rescue plan to keep the spotlight on Capitol Hill.
That is of course the opening paragraph to the front page of the paper (note: for the record, I no longer have a physical paper delivered, I have gone all digital and love it). That paragraph is not what has me scratching my head. The following is what caught my eye:
To persuade enough moderate Republicans to vote for the measure, leaders also added tax credits for home and auto purchases, and provided relief from the alternative minimum tax.
Does anyone else see what I see? What is wrong with that paragraph? What is troubling to me? "Leaders...added..." The Democratic Leadership added...to persuade enough moderate Republicans...

This is what is driving me mad. I guess, there is a lot troubling me with the current Congress, I seem to be saying that more often than not or words to that effect. There is no "bipartisanship" in this the first major test of both the new Congress and the new Administration. This great retooling of the government, this redistributive wealth economics coming from the Change We Can Believe In is nothing but Democrat's exercising their new found power. The taking over both Houses of Congress and the Presidency (with the potential to remake the SCOTUS- giving liberals the Grand Slam) has made the party of FDR, JFK drunk with power.

What is fundamentally wrong with the statement from the Union Tribune, and probably every newspaper in the US, is that "the leadership" added the changes to the legislation. The GOP has been locked out of Committee discussions; the GOP cannot offer amendments unless Pelosi/Reid allows it. This Pelosi/Reid legislation is being met with great skepticism among the public. In the end though, the Democrats got moderate Republicans to join in to gain the needed 60 votes to  end debate (cloture).

Again, I would like to thank those moderates in the GOP- Spector, Collins, Snowe- are no Republicans, they are RHINOs, and those are not large usually gray skinned with a horn or two on their snout...

The arguments given to defend this gross overspending bill from Democrats seem to be that the Republicans got us here by spending and running in the red during the last 8 years. So, then the answer, of course, is that we must spend 4 fold, 10 fold, oh heck, let's just spend ourselves into oblivion.

Republicans(?) Cast Aside Conservative Principles

     Three "moderate" Republican Senators cast aside their Conservative principles to acquiesce to the Pelosi/Reid/Obama "stimulus" package. The deal is set for a vote on Tuesday.
 
   I am utterly disappointed in these three republicans. They have rent asunder the momentum that real Conservatives had on the issue of this spending bill masquerading as a "stimulus plan." According to Townhall, you could have guessed it, Senators Susan Collins (R- Maine), Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Senator Arlen Spector (R- Pennsylvania) have pledged their support and will vote for the $827 Billion package.
     These three Senators have made it extremely hard for me to support the Republican Party. They have forgotten or have chosen to ignore Reagan principles of low taxes, smaller government, and have violated my trust in the political process. This is a huge spending bill that will do very little to stimulate the economy, unless you are the printing press operator as there is going to huge printing of money and borrowing that eventually will result in nothing more than hyper inflation and further erosion of the employment market. This is indeed a very sad day for Americans, and particularly we Conservatives.
     I can only pray that there will be a few brave souls in the "Blue Dog" Democrats that will side with real Republicans and keep debate open, voting against clouture maintaining the less than 60 votes Pelosi/Reid need to get this boondoggle passed.
     Utter disappointment and shame that we are merely passing the buck onto my children and their children. There is nothing here other than more government debt and redistribution of wealth. You voted for it, you got it.
   A Charles Krauthammer rightly points out:
"The Age of Obama begins with perhaps the greatest frenzy of old-politics influence peddling ever seen in Washington. By the time the stimulus bill reached the Senate, reports the Wall Street Journal, pharmaceutical and high-tech companies were lobbying furiously for a new plan to repatriate overseas profits that would yield major tax savings. California wine growers and Florida citrus producers were fighting to change a single phrase in one provision. Substituting "planted" for "ready to market" would mean a windfall garnered from a new "bonus depreciation" incentive.

After Obama's miraculous 2008 presidential campaign, it was clear that at some point the magical mystery tour would have to end. The nation would rub its eyes and begin to emerge from its reverie. The hallucinatory Obama would give way to the mere mortal. The great ethical transformations promised would be seen as a fairy tale that all presidents tell -- and that this president told better than anyone.

     I will leave you this quote from Ronald Reagan's first Inaugural speech:
  " In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem;
   government is the problem. From time to time we've been tempted
   to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by
   self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government
   for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of
   governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern
   someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must
   bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no
   one group singled out to pay a higher price."
