GM: Government Motors and the Sacking of GM CEO Rick Waggoner

The quip regarding Government Motors is not original by any means, but it's spot on. Now the government is running General Motors. Waggoner was sacked by President Obama, from The Politico via Wizbang:
According to The Politico, Waggoner is stepping because Obama demanded it:

The Obama administration asked Rick Waggoner, the chairman and CEO of General Motors, to step down and he agreed, a White House official said.
The White House confirmed Waggoner was leaving at the government's behest after The Associated Press reported his immediate departure, without giving a reason.

On Monday, President Obama is to unveil his plans for the auto industry, including a response to a request for additional funds by GM and Chrysler.

Industry sources had said the White House planned very tough medicine, which turned out to be an understatement. And it went to the very top. The measures to be imposed by the government will have a dramatic effect on workers, unions, suppliers, retirees and the communities where plants are located, the sources said.
Is it surprising for anyone alse that the president and his administration are now in the business of firing, presumably hiring, and replacing the Board of Directors? Could you imagine the outcry if Bush/Cheney had done this? We'd hear the Hitler comparison ad naseum.
Here is some of the speculation that is out there in the blogosphere, and perhaps on Rush's radio show today, that the administration will replace the Board with 'environmentalists' and UAW union bosses. Hmmmm, payback for electing President Obama? GM will no longer make the SUVs and large trucks synonymous with the American's individuality. Now, we can expect Hybrids and wee toy cars that could haul a family of four, let alone a soccer team.
My last question is: What next?  Just struck me, too. The Stock Market liked the Waggoner sack by President Obama. It does not bode well for any business. Who's next? John Stumpf at Wells Fargo? Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan Chase? Hey, I know let's go after the CEO's at the big oil companies.

Iranian Experts Involved with NorK Missile Launch

According to the Times of UK Iran has missile experts that are involved in the current North Korean missile launch. The Japanese are rightfully concerned with the launch, as they are certainly within range of the missile range (as is part of Alaska). The report of UKTimes says a 15 member team is in North Korea; anyone worried about Iran getting the nuclear bomb and a missile with the range of a couple thousand miles?
What amazes me, is that even with the current technology of our missile defenses, the current administration is trading it away. Their belief is that missile defense, SDI in Reagan terms, is untested or unproven, and therefore an expense that should be cut. The Obama Administration is willing to take the agreements with Poland and Ukraine and bargain them away with Russia to hit the 'Reset' button and make points with peaceniks. Much to the consternation of the Polish and Ukraine governments and people.
The complete erasing of both Reagan and W.'s legacy is all that Democrats and Obama/Biden are hellbent to complete within 100 days. Personally, I feel less safe and certainly more apprehensive of travelling and waiting for an al-Qaeda attack on the Homeland. That apprehension also includes the trading away of protection of our allies. How many of us recall the attacks on London.
When a general in charge of our missile can confidently say:
"Our testing has shown not only can we hit a bullet with a bullet, we can hit a spot on the bullet with a bullet. The technology has caught up," Obering said Wednesday. (Lt. Gen. Trey OberingLt. Gen. Trey Obering in giving advice to the then president elect)
I say "Shoot that NorK missile out of the sky at launch." Although, I can see the reticence for a politician with the NorKs upping their war footing. So, wait for it to be out over the Sea of Japan and blow that sucker out of the sky! I guess, one can't only expect the timidity of Obama/Biden, being pacificistic and beholden to the MoveOn.org wing of the party, not to mention President Obama's liberal ranking within the Senate.
One more reason to feel less secure, less safe, and out of control. Here we are in an economic crisis and it's fallen low on the radar to HealthCare reform. The reform of HealthCare is more important than solving our economic downfall (mortgage crisis should be a priority) and I imagine that the Global War on Terror, err...sorry, 'Overseas Contingency Operation', has fallen even further in priority. We will fallback to the Clinton policy of treating Obama bin Laden as a high profile case for law enforcement, rather than a military target. I hate to think that the US suffer a greater tragedy than 9/11. (Note: here I begin hearing the Darryl Warley song "Have You Forgotten?") I believe that 50% of the population has forgotten the nearly 3000 souls lost on 9/11, the worst attack on American soil by a foreign enemy.
I sat down and read the stories of several WWII Veterans reliving the attack on Iwo Jima (please let me know if this link is broken, it is a quite moving story), and wanted to sit contemplate the enormity of the event and how it is relevant today. Back then our fathers, brothers, our sons, our mothers, our sisters, our daughters and so on, fought because they believed in the attack on freedom, on liberty, on America, and it could not stand. I and many others feel that same emotional connection today.

HEH: La Times 'Confessions of A Dying Profession'

Heh, got to love this one from the La Times, via NRO and Newsbusters. Check out the photos at the Newsbusters link, rather funny that they rush out a paper without the usual LEDE's and captions and more: here. The failure of all of the major newspapers like the NYTimes, The LATimes and so many others, as well as the loss of many of the smaller market papers has been apparent for years. The advent of the internet, blogs, and all of the various new media has dealt papers a death knell.
Failure to adapt in the world ultimately, given many opportunities, creates the demise of laggards. The obvious bias of the major news organizations and the choice given to individuals among what sites they wish to visit; liberal and conservative choices. I will shed no tears to say goodbye to The LATimes, NYTimes, and the like. I receive all of my news via the web. I get my newspapers online for a ridiculously low annual price and the conservative IBD (Get 4 weeks free here).
What someone needs to do (if it hasn't occurred* already) is marrying the Kindle, it's imitators included, to the newspapers one wants to receive via a bluetooth sync...oh I'd love that!

*I hate the word occurred. It just never looks right any way I spell it. 2 c's- 2 r's, 1 c-2 r's, 2 c's- 1 r...egad..I should dispose of using it...

Mdme. Sec. Clinton Visits Catholic Basillica Then Receives Planned Parenthood Honor; More MSM Bias

I got the lines from Instapundit and Powerline; Instapundit put it as "Smart Power" and Powerline had it tagged as "More Smart Diplomacy?" The direct link comes from Catholic News Blog: Got news? State Department edition
Posted by Mollie.
Mollie is disappointed by MSM the coverage of the visit by Mdme. Sec. Hillary Clinton to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico. First, here is the gaffe:
During her recent visit to Mexico, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made an unexpected stop at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe and left a bouquet of white flowers “on behalf of the American people,” after asking who painted the famous image.

Here's more on the exchange:

Msgr. Monroy took Mrs. Clinton to the famous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which had been previously lowered from its usual altar for the occasion.

After observing it for a while, Mrs. Clinton asked “who painted it?” to which Msgr. Monroy responded “God!”
The gaffe is not a huge one, but I bet it is to Catholic's most notably Mexican Catholic's. It shows a real lack of respect and certainly the staffers dropped the ball. It reminds me of the 'Reset Button' that the secretary presented to the Russians that was actually translated as 'overload' or worse as 'overcharge,' depending upon whom you read.
What is it with high profile Democrats not understanding the Catholic Church and its faith(ful). As one that finds abortion abhorrent, I am shocked when Church does not take their members to task for their Pro-Abortion policies and support. The following is what caught my eye more than the gaffe, and thank you to Mollie for posting it:

This evening Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to receive the highest award given by Planned
Parenthood Federation of America — the Margaret Sanger Award, named for the organization’s founder, a
noted eugenicist. The award will be presented at a gala event in Houston, Texas.

This is what gets me when I read about Catholic's and high profile Democrats who are accepted by the Church for many events. We can point to the acceptance of President Obama as the commencement speaker at Notre Dame. In addition he will receive an honorary degree. What? Notre Dame defends the extension of the invitation to speak and the degree by saying they are hoping to "open a dialogue." Yeah, right. The president will stand before the crowd of graduating student's, professors and more. He'll take questions and, more importantly, defend his Pro-Abortion stance. I don't think so.
This is incongruous to me. It is what amazes me. The Bishops, however, are standing up and voicing their rejection of those who take communion and then go out and support Abortion Rights. Sen. John Kerry while running for office was chastised. While I know that Mrs. Clinton is not a Catholic she is a high-profile Democrat. This is what bothers me. The most recent criticism from Bishops involved Speaker Pelosi misrepresenting Catholic teaching on Abortion and life:

"As I say, the Catholic Church for centuries has been discussing this, and there are those who've decided...over the
history of the church, this is an issue of controversy."

At least there was a voluble outcry when she insisted that Church teaching "for centuries" has viewed the beginning of life as controversial and has no definitive definition. That's a crock...there is no question in any who profess the faith in Jesus Christ. Life is precious, and is at conception. That is when the soul and the body are created. Creation. No question. We are created in the image of God:

Catholics are also pro-life because our Christian tradition is pro-life. As Pope John Paul II says, Christians believe that
"all human life is sacred, for it is created in the image and likeness of God." Aborting an unborn child destroys a unique
creation which God has called specially into existence. (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops)

No question there. No controversy. I can't stand the blatant disregard for such a high belief in life. However, it seems okay to pick and choose which part of the faith Democrats choose to follow.

Global War On Terror Is Over: Obama Administration Tosses GWOT

The president has decided that the term Global War on Terror and 'long war' are now passe'. The Administration has replaced the terms with 'Overseas Contingencies Operation' according to a memo.
Welcome word just in from the Washington Post's ever-alert Al Kamen that the global war on terror is over, gone, kaput, finito.

Kamen confirms persistent recent reports that war has been declared on at least the term "global war on terror" as well as another suspiciously Republican phrase -- "long war." They've been ordered ended internally by the Obama administration. So we can all relax and maybe even release everyone from Guantanamo.

Kamen obtained an e-mail from Dave Reidel in the Office of Security Review saying, "This Administration prefers to avoid using the term 'Long War' or 'Global War on Terror' (GWOT). Please use 'Overseas Contingency Operation.' " Reidel asked memo recipients to spread the word to speechwriters and others.

Kamen quotes a spokesman for the Office of Management and Budget as denying the existence of such a linguistic guidance memo. (Los Angeles Times)

Boy, don't you feel safer today? There is also word that the Administration has quietly changed post-Bush/Cheney terror fighting tools. In addition to the closing of Guantanamo, 245 of the worst of the worst, are certain to be released. If there is no 'Global War on Terror' what precludes their release? Yep, so far I have been feeling safer. Moreover, the following makes me real anxious to get on an airplane:
On top of that, as reported by the Washington Times, the president is without fanfare applying gun-control ideology to homeland security by scrapping the federal firearms program, which allows some 12,000 airline pilots to carry guns with them in their cockpit during flight. Pilots say that already the approval process for authorizing pilots to carry guns has slowed considerably. (Investors Business Daily)
Feeling safer, yet? Further steps include the elimination of the secret CIA internment prison's, the stiking down of what have been called "tough interrogation." The Obama Administration is hellbent on undoing much of what Bush/Cheney employed that kept the US homeland from an attack. I am still awaiting the prescience of Vice President Biden coming true, and there be some attack that requires Obama to play Bush/Cheney and give a tough and rough response to some terror attack. His 6 months has not yet lapsed. I, for one, am not feeling safer, I feel as though we will need to be more vigilant in observations as citizens. Someone may need to play the roll of those on United Flight 93.

Parliament Member On Big Government Spending: Daniel Hannan

Paliamentary Member Daniel Hannan (Parliament European Member) has become a You Tube sensation. He takes the Prime Minister Gordon Brown to task over his big governmnet spending. I sure wish that our Congress had men and women with the spine to call out President Barack Obama on his socialist, big government, leanings. The current administration's plans on spending are outrageous and are going to plubge the United States into bankruptcy. Wanting to "reform" health care" is a boondogle. All of this extra spending will never cease. Once the bureaucrat gets his fingers into the pot and stirs, he wants to keep his fingers sticky and not only to continue in his pot but to get those fingers into everyonelse's pot.

Here is the You Tube video:

President Obama: Man O' Class, Special Olympics Crack Falls on Deaf Ears

How very sad that the President of the United States stooped so low last night on his Jay Leno appearance. To make a crack at the expense of Special Olympians is downright low. Can you imagine if George W. Bush had made such a lame joke? Katie Couric would have been apoplectic, Keith Olberman would be going ape-sh!%, and the combined powers at the NYTimes and WaPo would have front page exposes calling for his head and presidency.
Of course there are those who will say this is a partisan attack. An attack not worthy of any word space. It is somewhat akin to the General BetrayUs ad. An attack against those who would or could not defend themselves. It was beneath the dignity of the office. George W. Bush is a man of honor a true gentleman, whereas President Obama has shown a rather crass side of his humor. Is it a leaking of his true identity?
Before AirForce One had left the tarmac the political spinmeisters began damage control. Here we are in a time of extreme economic distress, and we have a picture of President Obama bowling in the basement of the White House, then appearing on the couch of Jay Leno's Tonight Show.  Lounging back, a coffee mug at hand, his legs crossed and his loafers polished to extreme shine. Here he was to take a little time to blow off a little steam and show us his comedic side. And, what does he do, he takes a swipe at the most innocent of children, those afflicted with, to no fault of their own, a terrible disease. Parents of these winners, as every one of them is, must have like a dagger was thrust into their backs while they were vulnerable. Class:
“No, no. I have been practicing,” Obama said. “I bowled a 129. It's like — it was like Special Olympics, or something."
I did a search on Google with the key words "Obama quote special olympics," and there are no major news outlets with any articles or posts. The MSM once again shows its true partisan, liberal nature.
The party line is that Mr. Obama meant no disrespect, and that he has a special place for the Olympians...yeah, right. The president and his team have so bungled their first 50-60 days in office, and the current crisis and cover-up is making the heat a little uncomfortable. What did Treasury Secretary Geithner know? When did Treasury request the AIG bonus exemption? When did Geithner, Obama and the economic team have knowledge of the bonuses? The fake outrage is a bit too much to stomach, but the MSM is glossing over the whole mess to the favor of the Administration.
Now we have something else to talk about. As I have told others at least I can take solace in the fact that I did not vote for the man nor his team and political allies.  The oath of office for every major politician whether city, state or federal office should mind the physicians oath "First do no harm." The path to socialism has been expensive, and it will only get more so. When the facade wears this or the teleprompters are off we now know what we can expect.
I just pray that there are those in our government who have not forgotten the first priority, to keep us safe from harm> the terrorists are watching and planning. If they can strike and create a further crisis in our economy, I shudder to think of what this administration will do.

100% Tax: Confiscatory Tax Policy and Its Ramifications

Now that the house has passed its version of the confiscatory tax policy, to recapture AIGs known bonuses, the Senate is to do the same. But it leaves me with a query: if they can do this, retroactively, to a single slice of the tax paying population, is there anything to stop them from doing it to others? Of course not. Hold on to your wallets.
So smug...

And, now there is word that the Administration wants to put in place a lower standard for passing legislation in the Senate. It effectively cuts out the minority, altogether. Reconciliation: a parlimentary procedure by which legislation is passed without debate (or the required cloture vote of 60 plus) doing away with the filibuster. How much power can the Obama Administration grab before the voters tire of their antics. Feigning indignation and outrage that someone pulled a fast one, all the while having been in the know, having asked for a loophole to put in the bailout package. I, for one, am having fun watching the Obama Administration essentially lie when it is cornered, and then having to backtrack. Could you imagine the outrage if Bush/Cheney had done half of the stuff this administration is doing. The MSM hysteria would never cease. And, yet the fawningover Obama continues, and the crises are unending and the Obama Administration is not going to let the opportunity of those crises pass without them taking advantage...sad. Really sad.

The Obama Administration: Do They Even Know What They Are Doing?

Oh boy, that's rich. I wake up this morning and grab the morning newspaper, which is no longer a paper but rather my laptop, and read the headline from the San Diego Union Tribune:
"Obama seeks to recover AIG bonuses"
Government OK'd payouts and now faces backlash
Edmund L. Andrews and Jackie Calmes
WASHINGTON

Presi- dent Barack Obama and his top economic advisers scrambled to calm a nationwide furor yesterday over bonuses paid at American International Group, even as administration officials acknowledged they had known about the issue for months.

One day after the economic advisers insisted that their hands had been tied by contracts requiring the payments, Obama ordered the Treasury Department to "pursue every single legal avenue to block these bonuses." "In the last six months, AIG has received substantial sums from the U.S. Treasury," Obama said. "How do they justify this outrage to the taxpayers who are keeping the company afloat?" Obama made the comment as he announced a plan to ease a credit squeeze afflicting small businesses by purchasing up to $15 billion worth of securities that are linked to small-business loans. But the news was overshadowed by anger from lawmakers and growing criticism of the bonuses.

White House and Treasury officials offered only a general sense of how they would carry out Obama's order and few explanations for why they had not acted earlier.
Heh, heh, heh...I have thought about this lately. Can I really want the Obama Presidency to suceed? If I do that means that I want his programs and policies to be a success, right? Well, I don't want his programs and policies to work. I want them to fail. I want the free market to do what it does best, and for the government to get the heck out of the way.
While I wish this president and his administration no ill will, I want the socialist, big spending, liberty sucking policies to flounder and fail. This Administration, in the inimitable words of Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, to use the current situation to his fullest benefit. To put in place The New Great Society Deal in place before anyone can blink.
In the meantime Pelosi/Reid continue to spend our children's inheritances and nationalize the banking, auto, and insurance businesses, all the while Rome burns to the ground...cue the sound of violins from Congress and the White House. Fumblerusky.
AIG pays millions in bonuses, always has, and this came as no surprise to the Obama Administration. They knew all along that this was the case. Meanwhile, the administration decides it is going to overhaul and nationalize Health Care, overhaul and further nationalize Education! Such grandiose plans, and still the credit markets are frozen. The housing market continues to plunge. And the administration wants to tackle Gays in the Military.
Not exactly the kind of leadership that engenders enthusiasm. The economy continues to go into the cess pool, and head for "Depression" and so little is done.
For one I am happy, content to sit back and watch the failures...only sad thing is, my 401K continues its downward spiral, my house continues plummet in price, overall our wealth has been squandered. All so President Obama can solidify himself as the most liberal and the most socialistic president, ever.
I am reminded of the So Cal fires that ravage the hinterland every fire season. The smell, the ashes, the gloomy sky and I see it spreading...
Hey, as an independent are you happy now with your vote? As a centrist Democrat are you happy with your 'centrist' president and Congress? Just wondering...

Democrat Caught With Hand In Cookie Jar: Bailout Funds Requested

Hmm, another high ranking Democrat has been caught with her hands in the cookie jar. You know, its okay if you are a Democrat not to pay taxes- oh where to start: Daschle, Geithner, Rangel et al. Now there is word that Representative Maxine Waters, never one to shy away from  controversy, called for a meeting regarding bank bailout funds. This from the San Diego Union Tribune this morning:
Top banking regulators were taken aback late last year when a Democrat congresswoman from Ios Angeles helped set up a meeting in which the chief executive of a bank with financial ties to her family asked them for up to $50 million in special bailout funds, Treasury officials said.

Rep. Maxine Waters requested the meeting in Septem- ber on behalf of executives at OneUnited, one of the nation's largest blackowned banks.

Waters' husband, Sidney Williams, had served on the bank's board until early last year and has owned at least $250,000 of stock in the institution.

I guess when you are a Democrat you can do no wrong, being held accountable for one's actions is never required. It is rather disgusting that those such as Congressman Rangel can get away with their, there is no other way than to describe them as scofflaws, offenses. When you are a republican, no matter who and what the offense you are hung out to dry, first by the MSM and then by the GOP and ultimately held accountable to their office; many losing their power and seats.  I guess their really is no reason to cry double standard, as it falls upon deaf ears.

Blame Game II: San Diego Union Editorial Agrees with Me

Ah, I enjoy when my words are echoed by an editorial board, my hometown to boot. The article below is from the editorial  board of the San Diego Union:

"Market’s message "
Sell-offs a sign Obama should refocus, San Diego Union Tribune, March 7, 2009

For most of us, it is way too early to assess President Barack Obama’s per formance in of fice.

But not so on Wall Street, where investors are voting with their wallets.

Since Obama took office on Jan.

20, the Dow Jones Industrial Average has dropped a heart-stopping 20 percent. That is not exactly a ringing declaration of confidence, either in Obama’s leadership or ability or in the likelihood that his policies will help pull the countr y out of the recession.

No wonder many Obama supporters are desperately trying to label the current economic crisis as the Bush recession, as if Obama hasn’t contributed in any way to our plight. After all, they say, the president has only been in office a short time. Of course, that doesn’t stop Obama supporters from crediting him for what they think he is doing right.

Obama himself recently tried to play down the significance of the Dow plunge by comparing stock averages to public opinion polls, since they both go up and down.

That sort of rhetoric might satisfy the hyperpartisans in the Democratic Party, but it’s just not accurate or fair. Clearly, the market is trying to tell us something with its sell-off, and the message could be that Obama needs to concentrate on fixing the economy and stop trying to fix every one of the country’s problems at once.

Especially when the administration is shorthanded. Treasury Secretar y T im Geithner hasn’t had any top deputies confirmed by the Senate, and two candidates for top Treasury Department jobs, Annette Nazareth and Caroline Atkinson, this week abruptly withdrew their names from consideration.

Add to this lingering questions about whether the Obama administration will soon push through another banking bailout, and some oddsmakers on Wall Street already are betting that Geithner could join the ranks of the employed by year’s end. That is never a good sign.

My previous post: The Recession Blame:Game- It Now Belongs to Obama/Pelosi/Reid
It is not enough to simply label something, Washington now needs to get away from pointing fingers and begin to solve somw problems. The time is to stimulate the economy, it is not time to attack business, nor institute socialist policies. The recession, which has dragged longer than the average recession, is being used for political payback and we can see the socialist tendencies in the triumvirate Obama/Pelosi/Reid are going full tilt with both the payback and leftist social policies more akin to the failed Eastern Bloc countries.
I am wondering how many will take to using the term United Socialist States of America, there are 3.4 million hits! It is a fait acompli. I saw a post last night from a commenter that should be heeded. Afterall, during the election campaign of 2008 all conservative bloggers and commenters (the Limbaughs of the world) argued that relationships matter.

Patriot Post: Founding Father Quote, Thomas Jefferson in War and Commerce

Founder's Quote Daily

"War is not the best engine for us to resort to; nature has given us one in our commerce, which if properly managed, will be a better instrument for obliging the interested nations of Europe to treat us with justice."

The Recession Blame:Game- It Now Belongs to Obama/Pelosi/Reid

The newest report on jobs was released this morning. The jobs report, as reported by the Labor Department, shows   651,000 jobs lost in the month of February, and the scary part of the numbers is that each time a new statistic is reported there are major adjustments to prior months' job losses. The unemployment rate has hit 8.1%, additionally, 4.4 million workers are now unemployed, with 2.6 million occurring in the last 4 months. The source of these numbers are from the Labor Department. The table below shows the number of jobs lost by month:
 February  651,000
 January  655,000
 December  681,000
Below is the steady progression of the unemployment rate, beginning in Jan. 2008- to current:

Something is fluky with the Townhall site.

I am now prepared to say that this recession no longer belongs to Bush. We are now well into the Obama Administration's responsibility, and I truly believe the troika of Obama/Pelosi/Reid bought the responibilty with the first porkulus bill.  I believe, as does the stock market, that what is being done to the American taxpayer and to businesses is nothing short of thievery. The total number of unemployed is at 12.5 million, a number not seen since December 1983, could we see even greater numbers of unemployed?
With President Obama's newest budget, indeed, more people will become unemployed. The porkulus has done nothing to rouse the American economy from its formidable hibernation. Okay, I will say that there must be at least 6 months of passing in order to see results, but, unarguably, porkulus has done nothing for instilling any confidence, either in the American public (note Consumer Confidence)or her businesses (note additional layoffs pending). The Obama/Pelosi/Reid sold porkulus as the best possible course of action in order to stimulate the economy, and it had to be done now, or else dire consequences would rule the day.
I am no economist, but I see no end to the recession any time soon. Most recession's last 7 months, and we are now at that point. I am, however, an average Joe (actually Banker Eric), I want the government out of my pocket and out of my decision making process. I posted yesterday a couple of headlines yesterday, and I truly believe that Obama/Pelosi/Reid are moving America toward socialism. I have dubbed it, certainly not the first to do so, the United Socialist States of America. We are going to have Universal Health Care shoved down our throats, an new Cram Down mortgage legislation,  a VP that speaks to the AFL/CIO behind closed doors- political payback. I am getting tired of how bad the leadership has been.

  • President Barrack Obama made clear recently that the US stock must be a good buy, as shares are at a bargain
  • Nationalized healthcare- already done in the porkulus bill, a government bureau will now look at practices, surgeries, medications, treatments for patients and tell whether or not it is efficient, also provided in porkulus the electronic medical record keeping - task force put together to look at how to have a single payer system, paid by the USSofA
The stock markets in the United Socialist States of America have plummeted by as much as 45% since President Obama became the clear victor against Senator John McCain. I wonder, are we still getting the Change That We Can Believe in? The spending bill, er sorry stimulus bill, full of pork- thus porkulus- seems not to have had an effect on the forward looking stock markets. The Treasury Secretary, Timothy Geithner, rolled out a plan to bailout mortgage holders that are upside down in their mortgages (meaning they owe more on the loan than what the home is worth), perhaps in foreclosure, markets still continue their free fall. Perhaps, the change we can believe in will roll the stock market back to the beginning of the Reagan Era- erasing all the gains. Then we can begin anew with the newly minted United Socialist States of America.

Ho boy am I still in awe...everywhere I look in grocery lines, at the newsstand, at the bookstore, all I see are books on President Obama, magazine covers, and more.  Under President Obama the United States government will spend more than all the other administrations, combined. Unheard of...

I have to go put my head in my hole, and catch my breath.

Proposition 8: 14 Words of Unprecedented Turmoil

California Proposition 8 a Constitutional Amendment was passed by 52% of the voters last November. Tomorrow the Supreme Court of the State of California will hear arguments from those who are proponents and those who are opponents of the highly controversial measure. March 2008, one hundred and one days ago, the Supreme Court of California nullified a prior measure that banned same-sex unions. The ruling was a split 4-3 decision. 14 words amended to the state's Constitution has stirred the bee's nest. Opponents have gone so far as to hold mass demonstrations, violated the free speech and the right to privacy of their opposition (I refer to the publishing the names of large donors to the measure, namely, Doug Manchester). It some cases these demonstrations turned vulgar and outright dangerous- thankfully, cooler heads have prevailed and the law will be argued. Here are the 14 words:

Only marriage between a man and a woman is legally valid in the state.

It is shameful that the state's Attorney General, Jerry Brown (D), will not fulfill his duty and defend the Proposition. The proponents of the proposition have gained the support of the Ken Starr, he of the Clinton impeachment drama. The contention, the legal strategy of the opposition is to attack the prop. on whether or not the proposition was legally put forth. There are two ways in which the state's Constitution can be modified; the change is either put forth as an amendment or a revision.

An amendment requires only that signatures are gathered which meet or exceed 8% of the prior gubernatorial race, in this case they had to exceed something in the neighborhood of 860,000, the goal was to exceed that number for sizable, comfortable margin. The other manner in which to alter the constitution is called a revision.

The revision is a stricter, more challenging with a stricter rule in order to pass; it requires a 2/3 vote of the Legislature. Guess how that would go, since both houses are majority Democrats.

The biggest argument will more than likely be on this point: whether or not the proposition was indeed as an amendment, therefore it would be constitutional. If the ruling is that it should have been a revision then the prop. would fail as unconstitutional. The argument here lies in whether or not the prop. Revisions carry greater weight in that they alter the fundamental structure of the state government. I do not see any way that the prop. can taken down by  this threshold. The fundamental right to marriage is available to all.

The argument that this prop. takes away the rights of a minority, is again invalid in my eyes. Every man has a right to marry any woman. Any woman has the right to marry any man. I know that the opposition hates to hear the argument, but I will make it anyway, we head down a slippery slope when the fundamental institution of marriage is cast aside. All other minorities would then be arguing that they have a right to marry; polygamy, the very young to an adult, and so on, I will not go in further detail as I believe we can all fill in this blank.

The precedent has been that the courts have been very reluctant to overrule these types of challenges; in the past property tax and death penalty amendments have been upheld under similar challenges. This, however, doesn't preclude this SC to stray and set a new precedent. As California has strayed so far to the left it would not surprise me; it will sadden me. I asked my wife last night, after reading a couple of articles regarding the issue, if she would want to move to the hills of Wyoming. Perhaps, we would have a home in a state that is closer to our morals, and doesn't tax the bejeebers out of us too boot!
