Tip of the Iceberg: ClimateGate Explosive Claim By Russians

I said in earlier posts that more would come out about the manipulation of data by Climate Warming Alarmists. While I have no idea if the claim is credible, if true it is going to prove to be continued unraveling of the Climate Warming data that comes from CRU.
Clarice Feldman- American Thinker
Icecap drops this bombshell from Russia's Rionovosta:

On Tuesday, the Moscow-based Institute of Economic Analysis (IEA) issued a report claiming that the Hadley Center for Climate Change based at the headquarters of the British Meteorological Office in Exeter (Devon, England) had probably tampered with Russian-climate data.

The IEA believes that Russian meteorological-station data did not substantiate the anthropogenic global-warming theory. Analysts say Russian meteorological stations cover most of the country's territory, and that the Hadley Center had used data submitted by only 25% of such stations in its reports. Over 40% of Russian territory was not included in global-temperature calculations for some other reasons, rather than the lack of meteorological stations and observations.

The data of stations located in areas not listed in the Hadley Climate Research Unit Temperature UK (HadCRUT) survey often does not show any substantial warming in the late 20th century and the early 21st century.

The HadCRUT database includes specific stations providing incomplete data and highlighting the global-warming process, rather than stations facilitating uninterrupted observations.

Nuclear Iran: What Now?

I was just watching FoxNews, The Live Desk, and Former UN Ambassador John Bolton was interviewed about the recent test firing of the medium range missile by Iran. He is always pretty direct and today was no exception. When asked the question was posed, basically, 'what's next?' His answer was that the Western world is pretty much hamstrung. As both the Bush and Obama Administration's relied upon negotiations, there is not much left to do. we may well have to live with a nuclear Iran.
Wow. Those are some pretty sobering words. How does the West implement a policy of "containment" as was done during the Cold War? Is it even possible? How can we protect Israel from a nation that has promised that they will  Israel, wipe it off the face of the Earth? That is not even the end of their goals as they want to wipe out the Great Satan, the United States.
We waited too long. We put our faith in appeasement. It didn't work with Hitler and it is an absolute failure now. I am not saying that the only option should have been the military one, however, putting in place much tougher sanctions may have worked, it may have brought on "regime change." Maybe, the people would have risen and brought on a coup. The one sanction that would have put enormous pressure on the Ayatollahs would have been a complete blockade of gas imports. In addition, shutting done all trade and a true blockade may have worked. Now we will never, never know. It is too late.
The only solution may be a mass strike by Israel. Would President Obama back this action up with additional assistance; by firing off some long range missiles to destroy some of the nuclear sites could be used along with Israel's simultaneous strike(s), we've done it before. Not going to happen...
Unfortunately, the Middle East will be thrown into further chaos and danger. Saudi Arabia and many more Arabic nations will insist upon their own nuclear problems. I don't think it is a stretch to believe that the Middle East may well be the first real full on nuclear war. Disaster. This does not even cover the many other nations who have expressed their desire for nuclear programs. Venezuela, Brazil are just two others who want to begin. Oh boy, South America and ultimately Central America in a nuclear arms race. Great.
The elevation of Iran to Nuclear Power status really puts the US on a different war footing. It is very easy for a rogue nation to put a nuclear warhead on a missile, put it at sea, approach the US coastline and fire it off. New York, Los Angeles, the Mid West? Too bad that the Obama Administration has essentially cut funding for missile defense to zero.
We are now in a rock and a hard place. Every president now owns this problem. From Carter to Obama they have left our greatest nation as well as the United States vulnerable. The world just cannot "live with a nuclear Iran."
We believers know that the Middle East, specifically Israel, will be the center of the battle of good and evil. I am not saying that this is the cause, as I cannot begin to see and/or understand God's plan, and I will not speculate as to when this might happen, but God has a plan and only He knows when, where, and what will happen.

US House Passes Sanctions, Iran Tests Long Range Missile

Just as the US House of Representatives passed sanctions on Iran, Iran fired off a long range missile. The UN decides it will pass further sanctions, ooh tougher ones than all those before, for Iran's response to reject a "last chance" nuclear deal. The deal would have taken some of the nuclear material from Iran and "taken away" their ability to further refine the material into missile grade material. Iran's response? Well, we have found out they are working on a "trigger" for a missile. Yep, I am feeling more secure now.

Precipice, Really, Nice Choice of Words Mr. President

Hmmm...this is not an original thought but I felt it worthy of repeating? Yesterday the president appeared with the Democrats and had the following to say:

President Obama, surrounded by Senate Democratic leaders, said today "we are on the precipice" of major health care changes, though "there are still some differences that have to be worked on."

"They are waiting for us to act," Obama said. "They are counting on us to show leadership. ... There's too much at stake for families who can't pay their medical bills or see a doctor when they need to or get the treatment they need."

Senate Democrats are struggling to find the 60 votes they...

Well, I must say when using the word precipice, it is an interesting choice considering, from Merriam-Webster's the definition:
Main Entry: prec·i·pice
Pronunciation: \'pre-s(?-)p?s\
Function: noun
Etymology: French, from Middle French, from Latin praecipitium, from praecipit-, praeceps headlong, from prae- + caput head — more at head
Date: 1613

1 : a very steep or overhanging place
2 : a hazardous situation; broadly : brink

Considering that every poll now shows shrinking support for health care reform in it's current forms. Now we are seeing more and more articles and opinion that Dem Leadership is in danger of falling off the cliff. They are in danger of being the majority in Congress. The reason they are cramming this down is that this will be their only chance, a chance that hasn't been available for 40 years and more...

What Do Karl Marx, Adolf Hitler and Global Warming have In Common?

In an article at The American Spectator Ben Stein, he of Ferris Bueller (classic!) fame, has penned a fantastic Letter to the Editor well worth the read. Like he, I too am now global warming zealot nor a complete denier, rather we agree that whatever the cause- anthropogenic or solar activity or oceanic actions- man can do more to ensure a better world for our children. Can it hurt to ensure that plastic water bottles last forever in a trash heap, or spewing pollution into the atmosphere be curtailed? The debate should be how to ensure a better life, not the complete destruction or altering of lifestyles imposed upon people by governments, especially a "government" answerable to none.
A clear example of this is the current Copenhagen Climate Conference. It has devolved into a the haves and have nots. It is held hostage to the likes of Chaves, Ahmadinejad and Mugabe, attempting to shakedown the West. It has become a way for the "one worlders" to impose sanctions which create wealth transfers. Essentially, there would be taxation without representation, a nasty thought. There has long been those who question the motives of those behind the Global Warming Scaremongers, the High Priest Being the Goracle, former Vice President Al Gore.
The current debate over the "hacking" or as I like to say the whistle blowing of the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit's e-mails clearly show there has been manipulation, if not outright fraud in pushing the global climate changes. I have said in the past that the CRU is merely the tip of the iceberg (apropos, huh?), there are likely to be more revelations of the same. Not to mention the most recent Goracle misrepresentation, his claim that a scientist believes it likely that the Arctic Polar Ice Cap will disappear in 5 years. The scientist, Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski has refuted Gore's claim, oops, Al is caught in another Inconvenient Truth!
All of these questionable actions bring us to the crux of Mr. Stein's letter. He lays out the way in which man goes about to "create models that we think make us appear to be gods." In other words mankind goes about ordering the world to make it make sense. Most crucial are the following paragraphs:

Karl Marx invented such a model that purported to explain all of history. It was a cruel sham and an excuse for the most breathtaking cruelty in the history of the human race. Now largely abandoned, except on the campuses of universities, it promised salvation and delivered death and suffering.

Adolf Hitler, borrowing largely from the vicious racist doctrines of the superiority of the Nordic races, promised a beautiful super race and a super future. He delivered mass murder and war.

Certainly, no one is suggesting that Al Gore nor his global warming proponents have an eye upon mass murder and/or death. The point is that the Global Warming zealots are creating a model, a model that closely resembles religious movement. Look at how they frame those of us who oppose the manner in which Warmers, we're considered non-believers, flat-worlders, and so on.
What the global Warming zealots want to do is bring about "climate and social justice." By adding in the religion of Global Warming, they have made it justifiable. Anything that doesn't fit their model must not just be cast aside but framed as though denying it is tantamount to heretical. As they say this means life or death. Destroying the lifestyles of the machine that is the American economy and transferring that wealth to the have nots is 'the right thing to do.' Ah, but that lifestyle change doesn't include the zealots' lifestyle. Limos, private planes, huge homes and gatherings are still their privilege, it just everyone else's lives that must change.
Again, I see no problem with clean air, or lessening our impact on nature, but there must be a balance. President Obama will be in Copenhagen soon. Will he sign up the United States to draconian reduction in global warming emissions and wealth transfers as demanded by petty dictators that will decimate our economy? Maybe, maybe not. What we do know is that if he doesn't he is willing to allow his EPA Administer regulate CO2 emissions by regulatory fiat. Again, the reason will become the old climate justice, just as he is imposing social justice upon American's via his HealthCare Reform. Ultimately, that is what his presidency is all about, and I believe, the American people are beginning to realize that candidate Obama is far from President Obama.
President Obama's overall Job Approval ratings are in free fall, with most polls having his "Approval" rating below the neutral 50%, some as low as 46%. In addition polls are bearing out that the belief in global warming is falling as well.
I believe there should be investigations into global warming data. There should be an investigation into whether or not manipulation and/or outright fraud has occurred. Then we should lay out the real data, and debate ways in which we should go about helping leave the world a better place for our children, but not at the expense of destroying our lifestyles, freedoms and liberty. Those are sacrosanct to Americans. Lastly, not only are the methods behind global warming questionable but the reasons behind it are questionable as well.

Obama to Fat Cat Bankers: Increase Lending

Is anyone else confused as to why any banker would want to take on extra risk? While on one hand slamming Wall Street bankers as "Fat Cats," he is imploring them to "take a third and fourth look" at their lending practices to small businesses.
It is amazing to me that the president can make big business, whether it be insurance companies (esp. health insurers), Wall Street, and bankers the enemy, and the cause of all economic ills. He sits upon his throne behind the desk in the Oval Office and strikes his gavel down and can't seem to get the economy to move. He can't get his HealthCare Reform through without true bipartisanship, and yet he continues along the same path.
He has continued to make business the bad guy. He can't seem to understand that virtually every business is sitting on the sidelines to see what other tax increases are forced upon them. They are not hiring as they are looking at huge health care bills along with new payroll taxes. At his big Jobs Summit he invited mostly unions, union friendly businesses and avoided the largest business organization: The Chamber of Commerce. He avoids any and all opposition voices. So much for a new government, unless you work for the government (as your income and prospects are skyhigh!).

Global Warming or Global Cooling?

Is the world really warming? Is it going through a cooling phase? Is carbon dioxide the cause? Is the lack of sun spot activity a more likely culprit? Is man the cause?
One point that I have found most interesting is that CO2 is a mere 3% of the atmosphere, and that the increase is minimal. While i have no ieda whether or not global warming or is cooling, I don't trust any information that is not subject to real scientific scrutiny. When I hear foolish things about how and where many of the temperature tracking stations are placed makes me a real skeptic. I believe there is an agenda behind the current Global Warming Religion.
The High Priest of Global Warming, of course, is none other than Al Gore. I don't trust him any more than any other politician who is only looking out for him/herself. Global Warming, as proposed, is about power and control. It is about wealth transfer. The cost to the average American is staggering.
Now, does that mean that I don't believe that we should do everything we can to protect the Earth. The very definition of Conservatism is to leave the world better than before, to leave a legacy for my (children). What I don't like is the Sky is Falling argument. There has to be a balance. Why crush our lifestyles, our economy, to affect the climate by something that equates to less than 1%? Whenever I hear that Congress is going todo this or that, Cap and Tax, or that the UN is pushing a "global tax," I shudder. Everything they propose hits my pocket book. In addition, I don't want some nameless, faceless, unresponsive bureaucrat in Copenhagen controlling my money. Wasn't that what the American Revolution was all about? Those who forget (or don't learn) history are doomed to repeat it. Indeed.
Al Gore and all of those who dismiss the CRU email whistleblowing (yep, that's what it was, not thievery!) seem to miss is that this is probably only 1 example of a whole slew of scientists that are hiding and scheming to advance an agenda. I will bet there will be more revelations in the coming months/year. If the evidence is so very well documented then why not be absolutely transparent? Part of science is the ability to reproduce results from scientist to scientist. To prove or disprove therory, is a bedrock of science.
Manipulating results, denying the opposition a chance to scrutinize data and denying any opposition opinion from refuting their results just makes it look like suspicious. And, here's something that makes no sense to me. Where do the scients get the temperature from, oh say, 1776? How about even further back, 1492? Hmmm...speculation, right? The manner in which we measure temperature has changed dramatically. Recorded history was not an exact science. And, now, when you hear that one station is right next to an air conditioner's exhaust system, kind of fishy...
There is a lot of work that must be done. This is no the time to simply jump in and make decisions which will have economic consequences so quickly. It is irresponsible. Have scientists on both sides come to the table. Investigate every climate change research facility to see if there has been manipulation, on both sides. Lay bare all of the data. Openness, transparency is the mantra of this administration, not something they acutually practice, but they should call for it.
Lastly, I can't believe the administration is so hot to make climate change and COthat they would bypass Congress and have the EPA simply legislate from their ivory towers. This is merely part and parcel of the administration wishing to take over every aspect of our lives as they know best. I am done with it. From HealthCare reform, Cap and Tax, to the supposed "Jobs Summit" are nothing more than one sided. Control the message, control the masses. Sound familiar?
Here's a very important graph that the left, global warming alarmists don't want you to see:
Figure 1. Atmospheric temperatures 1900 to 2009. The blue line shows global cooling for the past decade; the red line shows the length of the decade.

Dems Cobble Together A "Deal" With...Themselves

The Democrats in the Senate have come out to tout a "Deal" that, as Sen. Majority Leader says "has something that we think should satisfy everybody." Oh boy, those words send shivers down my spine. "Satisfy everybody." How can that happen? On one hand you have the Universal Single-Payer advocates and public option opponents- and those are within the Democratic Party. This "deal" doesn't seem to address Senator's who are adamantly opposed to abortion, a "deal" killer. Leave it to the Democrats to spin that they have a "deal" that isn't a deal and that is a deal amongst them. It is laughable. Something stinks in D.C.
Many of those "moderate" Democrats that have been targeted by Reid are cautious in their support. In fact, one of the liberal Senators, Russ Feingold (D-Wis), one of the "negotiators" has come out against the very "deal" that he cobbled together:
"I do not support proposals that would replace the public option in the bill with a purely private approach." (Source: IBD 12/10, 2009, No Option)
How can a "deal" be a "deal" when one of the negotiators has come out against one of the sticking points that had to be used in order to draw "moderate" Democrats into the fold? Another real problem is that all of these "deal" are done behind closed doors. What is being promised to Landrieu (D- LA) over and above the $300 million bribe in the original Reid Bill? See my previous post on the payola here. The one true holdout seems to be Sen. Joe Lieberman (I- Conn.) who is concerned about both a public-option and the overall cost. Let's hope he continues to stand up to Democratic Leadership, hope, right?
Another real problem with every "deal" and/or bill that Dems are pursuing is the cost of this power grab, a grab to take over the best healthcare system in the world. We can always debate the real problem, the real reason for reform: cost. There is nothing in any of the reforms before both the House and Senate that will ultimately result in lower costs. In fact, it is quite the opposite; every proposal not only will add to the deficit, but will cause prices to rise! The "deal" is no different.
One of the few details that have emerged is that by getting rid of the public-option (not sure how it is different when it will be run by a governmental office: Federal Employee Health Benefits Program- isn't that still "public?") is that MediCare will become available to those 55-64 if they choose to "buy-in." Huh? Expanding the beneficiaries of MediCare is not a cost savings measure for an entitlement that is nearly insolvent. In addition, there is no question that by implementing this change will ultimately result in higher premiums for private insurance. When is a "deal" a deal and not just merely smoke and mirrors?
All of this posturing by Democrats is also very confusing to me. When public opinion is decidedly against the reforms that are being "crammed down" is political suicide. Maj. Leader Reid is likely to have voters pull a Daschle. A Daschle being a sitting Majority Leader is voted out of office by his constituents. Blue Dog Democrats that vote for this new entitlement, big government spending "reform" are likely to lose their seats as well. Kill the Bill. Reid also stooped to the lowest of lows by pulling out the race card.
In a current speech he likened Republicans and opponents of HealthCare Reform as racist. During the civil rights movement of the 60's Republican's wanted to slow down the reform, he accused. That not being enough he then went on to accuse Republicans of opposing suffrage as well. That speech really went too far. Labeling opponents as racist or anti-feminism stretches credibility.
At least those 5 "moderate" Democrats that are holdouts are also concerned about the cost of the reforms. Sen. Lieberman has said that he wants to see what the CBO score and to see about the solvency of MediCare. This debate has gone on so long that Democrats are hoping that the public while tire and begin to take less note of what is going on in D.C. I, for one, hope that opponents continue to put the pressure on. I hope that the Tea Parties continue, especially if the Senate takes off for the Holiday break- let their constituents give them an earful. Public support for the reform as currently presented has plummeted to as low as 35%. A vote for this monstrosity is a vote to ensure the voters give out pink slips!
If there is truly a revolt amongst voters (revolt in the U.S. is a turnover of the party in power) and the public puts their trust in Republicans they better rise to the occasion. They simply can't become Democrat Lite. They must adhere to the principles that Reagan personified:
  • Limited government
  • Strong Defense
  • Lower Taxes
  • Pro-Life
  • Free Market
  • Entitlement/Spending Reform (ban earmarks!)

Well, that's enough for now. There are others that are far more qualified to comment on this "deal." I just keep praying that, in the end, conservatism takes the day.

Stimulus Round 1 Failed, So We Need Stimulus Round 2- Spend, Spend, Spend

The audacity of those in power never ceases to amaze me. The Democrats in the House and Senate were so impressed with the amount of jobs created and/or "saved" by the Stimulus Plan of 2009, you know, the $787 Billion spending bill was so successful that we must, must have another round of spending to stimulate the economy, to stimulate job creation. Yesterday, the president made it clear that round 1 was so successful (even though 2/3 of the money still hasn't been spent), and that double digit unemployment is not his fault, that we must "spend our way out of this recession."
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama outlined new multibillion-dollar stimulus and jobs proposals Tuesday, saying the nation must continue to "spend our way out of this recession" until more Americans are back at work.
Without giving a price tag, Obama proposed a package of new spending for highway, bridge and other infrastructure projects, deeper tax breaks for small businesses and tax incentives to encourage people to make their homes more energy efficient.

"We avoided the depression many feared," Obama said in a speech at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank. But, he added, "Our work is far from done."
So, the idea is to go ahead and spend another $200 Billion! Throw money at the problem, that is the only way to solve our crisis. The only problem is that the stimulus was an absolute failure. Absolute failure. Recall that when real investigative journalists took the time to look into the claims that the stimulus saved X amount of jobs or created X amount of jobs was a complete fraud (or as VP Biden would say- human error, there's no intention to defraud, those made up districts were just an oversight). The stimulus was nothing more than payback to political hackeys. Revealed today via Drudge, even Sec. of State Hillary Clinton's pollster received a substantial amount of stimulus funds. You know, he can save jobs and create all kinds of long lasting, permanent jobs. The kind that would bring about the Second Great Depression left by Bush Co.:

Nearly $6 million in stimulus money was paid to two firms run by Mark Penn, Hillary Clinton’s pollster in 2008.

Federal records show that $5.97 million from the $787 billion stimulus helped preserve three jobs at Burson-Marsteller, the global public-relations and communications firm headed by Penn.

To save 3 jobs...that a cost of $2.0 Million per job saved. No one in the government can be accused of looking at the cost/benefit ratio. That is but one example of the payback given to political allies of the new "transparent" administration. Yep, we need more spending to reward the best of the best.
Are you furious yet? I am...it's high time to pink slip the Democratic Party. And, President Obama had better start laying the groundwork for his presidential library as his tenure is going to be short, despite his ego that says he will have  8 years in office. It is time to throw the bums out of office!

All Politics Is Local: Oceanside City Councilman Should Stay

The little burgh, in which I live, Oceanside, CA, held a special election yesterday. It was special in that we only were voting on a Recall Effort put forth by special interests: Unions, specifically the Police and Firefighters and the liberal establishment. The recall vote cost an estimated $500,000. For a city facing a budget deficit of $10 million this was no drop in the hat.
While this was a small special election in faraway parts of the Union, it had national implications. Can a group that is dissatisfied with the manner and direction that labor negotiations are progressing unseat one of their primary opponents? City councilman Jerome Kern was the focus of the Recall Effort. Both sides raised substantial funds, Jerry having raised $180,000 and the Oceanside Firefighters Association sponsored a political action committee, Citizens to Recall Kern for Fair & Balanced Government, which raised more than $200,000 as of yesterday. Oh BTW, what Mr. Kern raised was called special interest money (he is a favorite of businesses, primarily the Real Estate lobby), while the recall defenders raised money from the "people." Yeah, right.
Personally, I believe that the PAC and the recall proponents should have to reimburse the city for the cost of the election. By an overwhelming margin, nearly two-thirds of the voters voted against the recall, voters rejected the effort by the Union.
Plain and simple, this was a power grab by the Unions to influence the outcome of negotiations. The Unions' coffers are so deep they ought to pay the piper. This is what I don't get; if their position is so strong and right, why fight in an election? Bring it to the table. These are difficult times; we face huge deficits locally, statewide and nationally. We must all face the difficult decisions that the services and benefits we taxpayers receive and expect are going to have to be cut. We must get spending under control. We do not have a deficit because we cannot raise enough funds (taxes), rather we spend, spend way too much! At every level spending must be reduced, and in some cases, those cuts must be drastic!
This brings me to why I think this election has national implications. I believe that the electorate is wising up. The truth is that voters are beginning to see the light. No longer will we accept the thinly veiled efforts by the left takeover our governing bodies. The voters are tired of seeing politicians and their speaking out of both sides of their mouths. You can't on one side say we face the worst economy since the Great Depression and then go out and spend, spend, spend. This election and other special elections are telling me that the Democrats face tough times ahead. 2010 will be a turning of the tide. I believe the Democrats, especially the liberal left, will be turned out. Sen. Reid, do you hear that? That is the sound of your Majority Leaders office door slamming behind you as you pack off to Nevada to continue your very questionable Real Estate business.

Here's the local papers' article, from the San Diego union-Tribune:
Oceanside voters last night overwhelmingly rejected a unionbacked attempt to recall Councilman Jerry Kern. "I feel pretty good," Kern said during early returns.
"I think the citizens of Oceanside realized what the issues were and voted the right way."
The absentee ballot count was 10,832 -- 63.2 percent -- to reject the recall and 6,299 -- 36.8 -- to support it. Those percentages held throughout the night as votes from precincts were tallied.

This was the third council recall election in Oceanside since 1981. That year, Bill Bell and Ray Burgess were recalled. In 1991, Melba Bishop remained on the council.

Since 1981, the only other city council recall elections in the county occurred in San Marcos in 1981, when three council members retained their seats, and in San Diego in 1991, when 5th District Councilwoman Linda Bernhardt was ousted.

Kern, 57, is a first-term councilman who is up for re-election in November.

"With this mandate of the electorate I will continue to work on behalf of the Oceanside taxpayers to contain our costs while providing the maximum services during these challenging economic times," Kern said in a statement last night. "Part of this balancing act includes containment of our employee benefits so that the UNOFFICIAL RESULTS (60 of 60 precincts reporting) Should Council- If he was reman Jerry Kern called, who be recalled should replace from office? him?
Yes -- 8,611 Rick Kratcoski (36.8 percent) -- 1,698 No -- 14,803 Chuck Lowery (63.2 percent) -- 9,107 Rex Martin -- 4,261

taxpayer doesn't end up footing the bill. ..."
Kern was targeted by a coalition of residents and public-safety employees who view him as favoring development over neighborhood interests.

The Oceanside Firefighters Association sponsored a political action committee, Citizens to Recall Kern for Fair & Balanced Government, which raised more than $200,000 as of yesterday.

Their effort was funded by the firefighter and police unions, a union representing hotel and restaurant workers, and the San Diego-Imperial Counties Labor Council.

GroupssupportingKernraised $180,000 on his behalf, according to documents filed with the city.

The firefighters union complained that Kern voted with council colleagues Jack Feller and Rocky Chavez to cut the Fire Department's budget, slashing the department by two captains and a battalion chief. They also said he and Chavez met with a private firm to explore outsourcing the city's ambulance service, and that could endanger the public.

Kern countered that the union money spent on ousting him showed that employee benefits, not public safety, were the issue.
He characterized the recall as a "union power grab."

Kern said his and Chavez's meeting with a private ambulance was informational and nothing came of it.

He defended his votes to slash the public safety budgets, saying the council had to cut $7 million from the budget, reducing it to $116 million, and it was impossible to spare the police and fire departments in that deep a cut.

Residents said his actions jeopardized rent control in the city's mobile-home parks, and his support of a concrete plant to be built near Loma Alta Creek showed he didn't care about neighborhoods.

Kern, Feller and Chavez voted to approve the concrete plant, but the developer never built it, apparently because of the weakening economy. Kern said the concrete plant would have had adequate environmental protections.

Yesterday's vote culminated three months of campaigning that began July 24, when the registrar verified that groups had gathered 11,389 signatures of Oceanside voters, qualifying the recall for the ballot. The recall vote cost Oceanside about $500,000.

Oceanside City Clerk Barbara Riegel Wayne said turnout at Oceanside's polling places was light early in the day, but noted that 17,300 of 34,000 mail-in absentee ballots were turned in, including some turned in yesterday, which she said was a good response.

After polls closed at 8 p.m. ballots were taken to the Oceanside council chambers to be counted.

How's That Hope And Change Working Out for You? When All Else Fails Blame Bush Co.

The President made a stop at the Brookings Institute to make a pitch for his new-new economic stimulus plan. It seems that many journalists are beginning to really look at what the president has to say, rather than giving him such kudos for his oratorical flair. When they look and parse what BHO has to say, they generally find that he doesn't have much new to say. From his speech at West Point on his new-new Afghanistan "strategy" to the Brookings speech the MSM is left wanting more. Additionally, what they find is that 8 months into Obama Presidency the biggest meme is that it is all Bush's fault.
From the hastily put together Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP) to Guantanamo to Afghanistan the president and his minions have one finger pointed firmly in Bush's chest. The strategy in Afghanistan was a mess to begin with, and BHO (I still enjoy when there are those who refer to him as "The One," as there is nothing he can do wrong and he was the only man for the job he holds, and he reminds us in every speech that he makes- has there been a more ego-centric president? I, I, I, me, me, me?), who can never call for the defeat of the enemy, or call for victory, outlines how to surge while at the same time pulling out. At Brookings he took another swipe at Bush:
"Launched hastily under the last administration, the TARP program was flawed, and we have worked hard to correct those flaws and manage it properly," Obama said.
Yep, H1N1 was Bush's fault. The failure of the Stimulus was all Bush's fault. The debt and deficit are all Bush's fault. Oh, okay, maybe the GOP was culpable as well:
"[T]hese budget busting tax cuts and spending programs were approved by many of the same people who are now waxing political about fiscal responsibility while opposing our efforts to reduce deficits by getting health care costs under control," Obama said.
One of the largest roadblocks to hiring in the current economic environment has to do with what the House, Senate and White House are proposing: big government, higher taxes, more spending. From the wayward Cap-and-Tax to the humongous monstrosity that is called "Health Care Reform" are keeping owners and managers from hiring. The uncertainty of taxes soaring makes future hiring unlikely. Kill The Bill...kill the expiration of the Bush tax cuts, quit talking about taxing the heck out of the middle class.  Gee, is there any wonder that Moody's is threatening to cut the United States' AAA rating?
It sure didn't help the debate to hear Maj. Leader Harry Reid go so low as to compare opposition to Health Care Reform to opposing everything from slavery to suffrage and civil rights. Isn't it interesting that in order to move Health Care Reform forward the Maj. Leader has to negotiate with his own party? There is nothing going on in the House and Senate that would leave me to believe that they understand the "common man." You are either with the Dems or you are a racist. Truly a way to bipartisanship!
All that is certain in these uncertain times is that the president extols his virtuosity and his abilities while anything that happens negatively: It's All Bush's Fault!

CRU E-Mails: Hacker or Leaker?

I have long wondered about the e-mail "fiasco" that is facing the University of East Anglia's Climate Research Unit. Consistently we hear that the emails were "hacked." In addition, we continually hear that the perpetrator was a hacker. The MSM has taken the bait "hook, line and sinker," is it possible to have taken the pole and fisherman, as well?
You see, when the perpetrator takes on a big corporation, Enron for example, or some government agency (or politician for that matter) the perp is hailed as a whistleblower. In fact, there are laws protecting those who blow the whistle.
The sheer volume of the data "stolen," as we are continually reminded is huge. The content going back in time to question any conclusions brought by the CRU as circumspect at best and downright wrong at worst. If I am not mistaken, the emails take in a broad swath of the "scientists" involved. Namely, that they were not mere from UEA's CRU, the net is much wider. So wide, in fact, that the University of Pennsylvania is investigating.
The fact that the results could never be verified in independent investigations, the very hallmark of scientific integrity, should have been a clarion call in the first place. The shoddy science verges on quackery, the very thing they accuse their opponents of. Shutting down, drowning out and silencing opposing views ought to make a fair minded scientist scream barely brings about a shout?
It does seem that as some have suggested that Climate Change verges on a religious movement. The sacrifices being honesty, integrity and the truth. The Goddess Gaia needs to be satisfied at all costs. Truth be damned.
Want to lay waste to critics? Make all data transparent. Make all data available. If some of the science and data are irretrievable or lost and can't be repeated, then, certainly, the science is not "settled" (kind of like I suspect that Al Gore's gastrointestinal fortitude is not "settled.").
I truly believe that as a taxpayer I want to know if our funds have been used to front fraudulent data. If scientists have grown fat on the succor of the government an investigation is warranted. Prosecutions should take place if there has been manipulation of taxpayer funds at any institution. I would imagine that those who bow at the altar of Queen Gaia are really looking for a way to further "social justice" and wealth redistribution for Collective Redemption."
See American Thinker for their thoughts on Hacker or Leaker...let's hope there are more Hackers and/or Leakers in the future, the very near future (tomorrow, anyone?). Please, please, please! Come out and let's have a real deate and a real scientifc showdown.

Climategate: it's all unravelling now

So many new developments: which story do we pick? Maybe best to summarise, instead. After all, it’s not like you’re going to find much of this reported in the MSM.

1. Australia’s Senate rejects Emissions Trading Scheme for a second time. Or: so turkeys don’t vote Christmas. Expect to see a lot more of this: politicians starting to become aware their party’s position on AGW is completely out of kilter with the public mood and economic reality. Kevin Rudd’s Emissions Trading Scheme – what Andrew Bolt calls “a $114 billion green tax on everything” – would have wreaked havoc on the coal-dependent Australian economy. That’s why several opposition Liberal frontbenchers resigned rather than vote with the Government on ETS; why Liberal leader Malcolm Turnbull lost his job; and why the Senate voted down the ETS.

2. Danes caught fiddling their carbon credits. (Hat tip: Philip Stott) Carbon trading is the Emperor’s New Clothes of international finance. It was invented by none other than Ken Lay, whose Enron would currently be one of the prime beneficiaries in the global alternative energy market, if it hadn’t been shown to be (nearly) as fraudulent as the current AGW scam. It is a licence to fleece, cheat and rob. Still, jolly embarrassing for the Danes to get caught red handed, what with their hosting a conference shortly in which the world’s leaders will try, straight-faced, to persuade us that carbon emissions trading is the only viable way of defeating ManBearPig.

3. Hats off to The Daily Express – the first British newspaper to make the AGW scam its front page story.

The piece was inspired by another bravura performance by Professor Ian Plimer, the Aussie geologist who argues that climate change has been going on quite naturally, oblivious of human activity, for the last 4,567 million years.

4. BBC finally gets round to reporting – sort of – that Climatic Research Unit at University of East Anglia may have been up to no good. It’s true that this report on their website is so hedged with special pleading for the temporarily suspended director Phil Jones the man might have written it himself. But on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme this morning, I did hear the newsreader reporting it as more than just a routine theft story. Which is a start.

5. Legal actions ahoy! Over the next few weeks, one thing we can be absolutely certain of is concerted efforts by the rich, powerful and influential AGW lobby to squash the Climategate story. We’ve seen this already in the “nothing to see here” response of Dr Rajendra Pachauri, the jet-setting, troll-impersonating railway engineer who runs the IPCC and wants to stop ice being served with water in restaurants. This is why those of us who oppose his scheme to carbon-tax the global economy back to the dark ages must do everything in our power to bring the scandal to a wider audience. One way to do this is law suits.

At Ian Plimer’s lunch talk yesterday, Viscount Monckton talked of at least two in the offing – both by scientists, one British, one Canadian, who intend to pursue the CRU for criminal fraud. Their case, quite simply, is that the scientists implicated in Climategate have gained funding and career advancement by twisting data, hiding evidence, and shutting out dissenters by corrupting the peer-review process. More news on this, as I hear it.

Lord Monckton has written an indispensible summary of the Climategate revelations so far.

6. Watch out Green Dave! The Independent reports on the growing backlash within the party to Cameron’s libtard-wooing greenery. Turning to the Independent for a balanced report on environmental matters is a bit like consulting Der Sturmer for a sensible, insightful view on the Jewish question. Still, for once, the house journal of eco-loonery seems to have got it right and the point made by Tory backbencher David Davis is well made:

“The ferocious determination to impose hair-shirt policies on the public – taxes on holiday flights, or covering our beautiful countryside with wind turbines that look like props from War of the Worlds – is bound to cause a reaction in any democratic country.”

Thanksgiving Greetings!

I just wanted to take a moment to say Happy Thanksgiving to those who have visited and to future readers. May the coming year be more fruitful and blessed as this year has. And, may Conservatives in every coner of America rise up and take back our country with the principles we adhere to: Freedom, Liberty and Prosperity. It is time to say goodbye to those who would rob us of our Freedoms and Liberty, to take back our country from the brink of socialism and relegate it to the ashes of history!
It has been a tradition of mine to reprint George Washinton's first Inaugural Address:

George Washington's 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation

Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me to "recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:"

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech Him to pardon our national and other transgressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand, at the city of New York, the 3d day of October, A.D. 1789.

May God Bless America and her Patriots. I pray for and am Thankful to our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Guardsmen, Marines across the globe, who fight daily for our Freedoms, our Liberty, and our safety and security. And, may the Lord protect our two neighbors deployed in Afghanistan, both happen to be John. Lord protect them and their Marines under their command, may they all come home safely to their families; thank you as well to all the families who sacrifice as well.
